Welcome to my blog. I'm Alexa Profit and I am a junior at Smithtown East High School. I made this blog for my Business and Control Applicatons class and will be posting mayny different types of things on here for the class.  I am a full time competetive gymnast. I train for 3 hours a day and travel to many places to compete.  Gymnastics is a lot of hard work.  In my free time I like hanging out with my friends and family.

            Google Docs is website that you can save all of your work to if you don’t have a USB drive to transport your information.  This makes it a lot easier to keep your information with you and when you need to work on something you have been working on it is right there on the computer for you.  This makes it an easier way to save your work and then work on it another time where ever you are if you have any free time and a computer.     

            This can help with the business aspect of things because if you have your work saved on Google Docs you can have your work with you at all times.  If your boss at work randomly wanted to see what you were working on you can have it saved on the computer and not be worried about not having it with you.  It also helps because you don’t need to carry a little USB drive with you and be worried about losing that and then losing all your work.  This makes it easier for you to just have you work safe on the computer and makes it less stressful on you to know where all your work is.

            This helps in a social way because it is a good way to show others how you are working on things.  I think if I showed people I had this and that it is easy to use, it would be as helpful as it is for me for them.  I think that many people now use this and they like it a lot because they can have people send them things on it like their work so that others can see what they are doing.  This website just helps people get others work to look at and it makes it an easier way to communicate with others. 

            This website can help with the news because people can be writing about the news for a project and they can save their work to this website so it won’t be lost.  This makes it easier for the writer and to keep everything organized.

Facebook and Myspace

Myspace and Facebook are both social network websites.  They are both used by many people for different things.  These websites are both good ways to keep in touch with your friends and for many other different things, but these websites can also be bad because people you don’t know can see what you are doing.

            Facebook and Myspace are both a good thing for the social aspect because they keep you in touch with many of your friends or family members.  If you had a really close friend from school and they moved away to another state or country you would be able to stay in touch with them if you both had either Facebook or Myspace.  On these websites you have a profile where you can share your personal interests.  You can also communicate with your friends by sending them messages on Facebook.  These websites are a good way to stay in touch with your friends.  These websites can be bad at the same time though because you can have someone friend request you and not know who they are.  People all over the world have Facebook or Myspace so you don’t know everyone on the website. 

            These websites also can be used for business.  You can make groups on Facebook to help you advertise your companies and help spread the word about your business.  These sites can also help you stay in touch with all the employees that you need to work with.  Also this can help because if you are hiring a new worker you can look who they are on Facebook or Myspace if they have one of these websites to see if this is the type of person you want working with you or for you.  This can help you determine also if a person already works for you it can help you see if they are behaving outside of work.  This can be bad for your business because your boss can see what you are doing and if they see something that you did that they didn’t like, you could maybe get fired because of your behavior.

            Facebook and Myspace can also help you with the latest news.  These sites can help you stay to date with the news because people can post about something going on, and they can try and stop it by making a “status” letting people know what is happening.  If people want other people to know whats going on and want to help stop it, they can post it on their page and then make it known to their friends.  This can also be a bad thing because if you post something that you didn’t want other people to see, you made the mistake of putting it onto Facebook or Myspace because people could see it right away and then it would be known to a lot of people.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn can help you with business because it helps you exchange ideas and knowledge with other networks or professionals.  LinkedIn connects you to many jobs, sales and business partners.  With the search engine used on this website, it helps many people search jobs that show who you know at different companies.  This is a good way to find new opportunities.  A bad thing about this website is that things can be posted on this that people may not want you to know.  If it is on this website and people can see it they could get angry because they didn’t want that information to get out.

            LinkedIn can help with the social aspect because it can help you stay in touch with your colleagues and friends.  In this crazy world today, people change their professions everyday and their locations all the time.  When you have your contacts on LinkedIn, your address book updates itself and will never be out to date.  The contacts also have updating profiles which can keep you to date with their latest jobs, projects and their contact information.  This helps you stay in touch and easier to communicate.  This could be a bad thing because if you rely on only this to be the way you can keep in touch with someone and the network is down or something is wrong with the website, if its an emergency and you need to get in touch with someone and this is the only way that you know their contact information it wouldn’t be good because you wouldn’t be able to get it.

            LinkedIn can also keep you up to date with the latest news.  If people write about it on their profile you can always know about what’s going on.  This could help because if you need a fast way to see the latest news you can use this to make it a quick and easy way to find out.  This could be a bad thing too because if people just rely on this for the latest news, they might not be getting all the important information because they can just be letting others know what interests them.  This wouldn’t be good because then you wouldn’t know everything going on around the world that you probably should know and the better way to get information about the news would be to watch the news for yourself. 

Twitter Analysis

What is twitter?  Twitter is used by many people as a social network that allows others to know what you are doing.  Tweets consist of 140 characteristics in length and it tells your followers and friends what you are up to.  This allows you to share quick information that can help you communicate with other people that you wouldn’t normally exchange emails or instant messages with.  This website also makes you learn about other people with the same interests as you. 

            Twitter is used by people for both personal and business use.  One way that it is a good thing is because you can keep in touch with your friends and always know what they are up to.  People post things like “I’m going to the mall to get a dress for a party…anyone want to come with me?”  Most people would see this post and would know that they want someone with them so when they see this they would go to the mall and help out their friend.  It is a quicker way to get information out to all your friends without having to send them all an email or text.  For business, Twitter can be used to promote your company’s latest news.  This is a good thing because you can interact with your customers.  This could be a bad thing though too because maybe your company didn’t want all of the information out about what was going on and someone could post it not thinking about what the company wanted.  People can make silly mistakes on these kinds of websites because they can decide to just post things that maybe would hurt other people’s feelings in the long run. 

Twitter to me is a cool way to communicate and interact with others with the same interests as you.  This website makes it easier to find out little things about your friends and what they are doing, or maybe even something to do with your job.  You never know how well this website will last, but as of now many people use it and its becoming more and more popular everyday!

critical analysis

A blog is whatever you want it to be.  It is a website that you write stuff on in a continuous basis, almost like an online diary.  The new entries show up at the top of your blog page profile and people can comment on it.  Blogs were originated in 1999 and they enable people to connect with other people with the same interests. 

            Blogs are used by people for many different reasons whether its for work, weather, entertainment, recreation, and news and political issues.  For example are when it is used for the news, it’s a place people can go so people can see the most current news and give their opinions about it.  An example of this is when the Japan earthquake hit people were able to post pictures, videos, and comments and it helped people stay in touch with what was going on in the world.  Another example is when blogs are used for social reasons and people post what they are doing and feeling.  These types of blogs usually include information that others don’t really need to know and can post things that could hurt peoples feelings. 

            What would I do with a blog?  I think that I would use my blog to show people all my interests and show people what kind of things I like to do.  Who knows what the future of blogging will come down to.  It will be interesting to find out!

Shawn Johnson

This video is of Shawn Johnson who was in the Beijing 2008 Olympics and was on the USA gymnastics team.  There were many great gymnasts on the team but Shawn was one of my favorites.  She was so Powerful in everything she did.  Her bars which is the video that i posted are amazing.  She is so clean and percise in what she does. She doesn't have any form breaks which makes her a great gymnast.
